I thought of this while working on some of my tasks that use the .Net API to interact with the server from the server, but I imagine it would be useful in other contexts as well. I'd like to be able to use the web API for similar purposes in some cases.

Running a job by ID where the ID is dynamic, meaning I can't use the Run Job task, was how it came up; using the web API this would be a shorter and simpler task to write support for, but that would require clear-text login information, whereas for the .Net API I usually run a Powershell task that logs in using the AD account of the credential used to run it.
