I know tihs list is extensive -- I've just had these ideas floating in my head for a whlie. They are mostly mutually unrelated. :)
1) On the Execute SSIS Package task type -- can we please get some mechanism to control what messages to stdout? For example, when you run dtexec from the command line, you can specify
to show only errors,
to show Errors and Warnings, etc.
2) On timeouts -- I believe the default behavior should be to raise an error if a timeout is set. I often forget to check that pesky checkbox 🙂. Perhaps we could get a little area to set personal (or server wide or both) preferences for the job/task templates.
3) When we set the notification for a task, there is no way to display which task was run... just the job name. I'm guessing a lot of this will be straightened out in version 5, so this issue may be mute.
4) about twice a day I accidentally drag and drop because I just move the mouse 1 cm before releasing the mouse button. Can we get a confirmation box before cloning jobs like this please? It wouldn't hurt for tasks either.
5) It would be nice to have an "unzip" task type. You could use a small free tool for that, such as 7Zip.
6) It would be
really nice to be able to tag jobs with "categories", much like you can assign caterogies to e-mails in Outlook, and then have a view that is grouped by them.
7) it would be also
really nice to be able to import new jobs from the built-in Windows Scheduled Tasks folder. I just spent 3 hours manually migrating jobs yesterday, and another hour today troubleshooting the 2 or 3 that I screwed up.
I'll let you know if I think of more :)
Regards,
Alan.
