I am trying to setup an SFTP download but the download keeps failing. The download files are very small so I don't think that's the issue. I turned on extended logging and these are the types of errors I'm receiving:

Impersonation failed in FTP task.
Unable to change folder to: /Distribution/CONCENTRA, err: SFTP component not connected
Failed to get folder content from folder: ., err: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Impersonation failed in FTP task.
Failed to get folder content from folder: ., err: Wrong socket state 0 in Receive (error code is 96258)

The common thread here is that it seems to be an Impersonation error but I'm able to login using Explorer SFTP connection using exactly the same user id and password so I'm stumped as to why the download job would fail.

The version of VisualCron on our server is 5.7.8 if that's a help.

Your version is a very old version. It's almost three years old now.
Lots of changes are done within this period: Change log 
Please try the latest beta version to test with (now 7.1.8). It might not be licenced for you, but you can always use the trail period if you install it on a different machine.
If the connection works fine with this version you need to upgrade to the latest version.
