A) Most of our FTP tasks don't work any longer (kind of disastreous) with this version. They exit with the error "Impersonation failed in FTP task". It's both normal SFTP and zFTP sites that are failing.

It appears to connect and login properly, but the error occurs when it tries to upload or download a file.

B) Remote connect to the VisualCron server doesn't work properly. While loading tasks it stops at 35% and no tasks show up. Connecting locally works fine.

Now I am back at 5.5.3, so I am unfortunately unable to test anything. However, I've got some log files.

a) where are you trying to save your downloaded files? Are you using a Credential there?

b) are you using the same version of client and server?

a) No credentials are necessary since the file is located locally. Also the task works fine with 5.5.3

b) Yes

a) it seems like some kind of Credentials are set anyway. Try edit the FTP command and press ok and run it again to reset the state. If you still get the same problem then please export that job to us. That error only shows up if the job is using a credential.
