Today we started getting errors that our password wasn't working for our sending emails via VisualCron using smtp.gmail.com.

A little investigation found that google ended using just a username and password. We were able to get the email connection working again by generating a google app password and using that instead of the general one.

Correct - you need to generate a google app via GCP / use Oauth now as they removed the previous function with user/pass.
