Yes, we removed that so it would not interfere. We will add more logging next week.

Just to be clear since it wasn't explicitely noted 'what' was set. You mentioned in your original post that the proper policy has been applied. Are you referencing the Admin Approval Mode and the Do not Require CTRL+ALT+DEL ?

http://www.visualcron.co...ml?interactive_logon.htm

You mentioned the OS is 2012 R2. Is this in a workgroup or joined to a domain? Do you have a standard security template that you apply to your servers when you build them? If In a domain, can you move the Computer account into an OU that does not get any of your domain group policies? (Thinking Clean system that is not modified from a base install, to see if it works first.... then see what, if any, policies break it.)

In as few or as many steps as required, can you walk us through creating the job/task from scratch? Is it as simple as even trying to run Notepad.exe in the foreground causing the issue? I want to try to reproduce this on a test machine. (My rank is Administration, but i am just a paid user like yourself, no affiliation with VisualCron 🙂 )

I was hoping we could schedule these tasks as background. WE did, but they fail because they are expecting Outlook running, which it is, on the foreground task. So I am back to trying to solve this.

Yes, admin approval mode set and dot not require are both set.

I think there is a standard security template applied, what the details might be on that template I don't know. Related, I wouldn't be able to move it in or out of it's existing OU.

Yes, and task, NOTEPAD, or just anything won't execute. It'll hang for 15-30 seconds while it trys, but eventually fails with the same Connection error to credentials provder.

Our developers are working on adding more debug logging so we can find out why it does not work for you. We will get back to you as soon as we have something to test.

Our old server is still running VC6 on Windows 2003. I have to be off that server in the next 10 days, when our trial install of VC8 runs out. I installed trial VC8 because we are renaming the current beta VC8 server to the VC6 server (then installing the permanent VC8 license).

There are 90 jobs, 30 of which require successfully running in the foreground.

Since I just re-upped a full purchase of VC8 what's going on with resolution for this?

I would be happy to work with a tech support person in person via remote if necessary.

I'm not sure when the problem started... but you could always try the latest version of 7.x which I believe is 7.7.8 (Maybe it's a combination of newer version and newer OS. Have you tried your current version of 6.x on 2008/2012? to ensure it's not environmental?)

http://www.neteject.com/...Cron/VisualCron7.7.8.exe

At our company we've been running 7.2.1 for a very long time quite happily although there are no foreground tasks to speak of. So I'm not going to be of much help there. We stayed on 7.2.1 for a long time because there were some pretty major changes in 7.5.1 and we hadn't had enough time to do proper validation, so now i'm finally evaluating 8.0.4/5. In the interest of getting a newer version running/tested on a later OS, you could try 7.2.1 too. Way better than 6.x 🙂 In fact, i believe there was a pretty bad memory leak in a later version of 6.x until you went with what i think was the latest, 6.2.2

Anywho, this is the version we're on. I'd try testing in stages. 7.2.1, 7.7.8, then maybe 8.x versions. See if any of them work for you while the support team looks into this.

EDIT: Just wanted to point out i'm not with VisualCron. My rank is administration as i sometimes help moderate and otherwise stare at this product daily at work.

Thanks.

That's a good idea. I will see if I have a server I can try VC7 on.

Problem is I cannot run VC6 for functionality reasons. VC6 didn't support interrogating the error codes returned by batch files. VC8 (7?) does. We have a bunch of jobs that need that to determine what errors to throw. it was a big reason we went to VC8.

Right. I just want to know if VC6 (same version you're using on 2003) works on your newer 2008/2012 server(s) with the foreground stuff. Basically, is it something different in the OS or specific to VC version 7/8 that is not working right (or both). Obviously it still needs to work regardless, just trying to narrow down where the problem 'might' be. :)

We are still working on adding more debugging to this. But if you have tried the latest there should be a file called

log_interactivelogonCPDATE.txt

Please attach the latest file.

Thanks. I tried the 8.1.1 but received similar results, could not connect to credential provder.

I want to be sure that what I am trying to do is possible. We are running VC on Windows Server 2012 with no active users logged in (ie no sessions). VC should start a new session, run the task, end, correct?

Yes, Unlock machine, login, run process and optionally lock/logout after. I assume you did set Enabled on the "Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL"?

After 8.1.1 all jobs were reporting exit codes of 77777. Went back to 8.1.0 everything went back to normal

While on 8.1.1 I set up a job to execute a few minutes into the future then logged off. No other users were logged in (ie no sessions existed).

Same job results, could not connect to Credential Provider for any job set to run in the foreground with no existing sessions utilize.

When the VC Tray is not running and I tell the client to run a job which is setup to run in foreground it will not do so, throwing an error about the tray not running. Which makes sense.

If Visual Cron service is running at server startup, and no session yet exists, is the tray running or required like above when a session exists?
