I've looked at the email settings and the only option seems to be an SMTP server.

You mean you want to open a browser and go to the webmail site and then simulate clicks to send an email? If so, then its unlikely that will work nor it is the right way to do it.

All major mail servers support SMTP pretty standard. If you ask your Network Administration, they should be able to enable access and give you a url or ip address to connect. Then would use that with your existing username/password that you use for webmail to use the "SMTP" relay feature to send emails. Hope this helps.

Sorry I wasn't clear with the question and I appologize as I'm certainly not familiar with email client / server configuration. We have a corporate Outlook Server which we can acces via the web / android etc. When configuring the droid for access to an account on the server, I provide the server name (in the form webmail.xxxx.net and provide the account name and password. I'm hoping to be able to pass the the same information to VC in order to send email alerts. In VC in the emal settings screen, there is only a setting for SMTP server. I've tried plugging in the webmail.xxxx.net there, but the 'test email' fails. Are you saying that the SMTP server name will be different?

Calling a web page is not the way to do this as matrixIII describes. If you have a corporate Outlook server only real way to perform this is to use the SMTP features of that server.

So, what you need to do is to get the SMTP server address and a user/password that you can use - from your email administrator.
