Have a job that archives a folder and all subfolders/files onto an external drive.

Upgraded from 5.4 (?) to 5.6.8 and now the job is failing with:

Err Unhandled error in ProcessTaskArchive, ex: Xceed.FileSystem.ItemIsRootFolderException: An attempt was made to create a root folder. If the root folder is a removable drive, make sure a disk is inserted.

I pointed this to a non-external drive and the job runs but only creates 2 folders and backs up 2 files in the archive, then ends successfuly. There are 20+ folders a few hundred files.

I ran the test on the task and I only see the 2 files - the user who runs the task is a local admin.

I upgraded to 5.6.9 with the same results.

Could you export your Job and send it to support@visualcron.com so we cam examine the settings?

Any more thoughts?

The reason why you get the first error is probably about Credentials (that it cannot access that remote drive).

If you get fewer files than expected it is probably due to the date filter that you use.

Strange how the credentials worked before I upgraded to 5.6.8 but not after.

Credentials work manualy but not VC

I removed the date filter - no change.

Want to try again?

Try with a simple "Read File Task" and using that Credential - on the same remote drive. Do that work?

Regarding the filter it is really hard to see why without examining the files on your computer. I would test to create a new Task with new File filter to see if it works better. Perhaps there is some other setting in the filter.

But you can write files to that drive using the File write Task? I mean, is the first error an issue anymore?

Created 2 identical shares - one on a local drive, one on the local USB drive.

Created shares with identical permissions on both.

Can run file copy/writes to the local drive.
Can not run file copy/writes to the USB drive, using local path or share name.

So it appears to be limited to the USB drive.

The user that is running the task is a local admin and has explicit permissions on the external drive.

Again, this only started failing after the 5.6.8/9 upgrade.

I wonder if you ran the VisualCron service as another user than before?

Can verify you that it is related to latest version by downgrading to older version?
