I installed the 5.6.3 version.

It may take a week or two to tell you if the problem is solved.

Could you tell me what are the changes in this version ?

I am having the same issue's, 4 times now within a month, just started happening, has been running for over a year with no issue's. I am running an older version, and plan on updating soon.

Is this a known issue, was there corrections put in place for the version supplied in this thread?

thanks

We are currently investigating this issue which has been reported from about 4 users.

The later "test versions" that we have posted do not have the same "locks" and we have removed the "forced" memory cleanup. Hopefully, fixes the problem.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same issue in 2 of 12 servers with VC. One of them it's fresh installation, the other is 3 years old and VC has been upgraded several times. Currently, I'm running version 5.6.2, but detected the same problem since 2 versions before. The service stays running but you can't stop it until you kill the visualcronservice.exe process.
Although I haven't seen any record in the Antivirus log, i've disabled the antivirus service and it seems that VC is not hanging anymore .. but I need to test it some more days. Do you recommend to install this 5.6.3 version???

Thanks!

Yes, we do recommend 5.6.3. Please update us on the antivirus issue.

Thanks for the reports. We have still been unable to reproduce this here. We are trying to find a common denominator but we have not found one yet so we need your help:

1. Operative system. You seem to be running both 2003 and 2008 so it is probably not the OS itself that is special. Which Service pack and OS are you running?
2. Have you performed all updates in the OS?
3. Which Task types are you running? Execute? Kill? SQL? Please write a summary.
4. Please turn on extended debugging in server settings and also turn on logging to event log. Next time it happens compare the latest events in the event log with the latest events in log_serverDATE.txt log. Do you see any more events in the event log?
5. At the time it hangs: Are you running any Jobs at that time?
6. Which antivirus do you have installed?
7. Anything special about other applications that are running on the server?
8. Anything else you can think of?
9. Anything else happening in the event viewer at that "hang/freeze" time (at the time of last log event)?

1 Server on Windows 2003 Server
1 Client On Windows XP Pro

---

2. Have you performed all updates in the OS?

YES

---

3. Which Task types are you running? Execute? Kill? SQL? Please write a summary.

Only process execution, lauching batch
and the 2 visualcron tasks

---

4. Please turn on extended debugging in server settings and also turn on logging to event log. Next time it happens compare the latest events in the event log with the latest events in log_serverDATE.txt log. Do you see any more events in the event log?

OK, I'll do it on Monday

---

5. At the time it hangs: Are you running any Jobs at that time?

No,
Every time no task were launched manually

Can't tell you if tasks were running when crash happened now

---

6. Which antivirus do you have installed?

Sophos Antivirus

---

7. Anything special about other applications that are running on the server?

The server where is installed VisualCron is dédicated to it.
The most tasks we execute are Apache ANT tasks

Nothing really spécial

8. Anything else you can think of?

We also have a supervision service By BMC Patrol

---

9. Anything else happening in the event viewer at that "hang/freeze" time (at the time of last log event)?

Can't tell you yet, but every time it happens, the server healt was ok,
cpu ok
memory ok
no freezing

On mondy I'll try to give you more information, and put the log in debug mode

Yesterday, after almost 1 week without problems, VC crashed again in the new server, with the AV service stopped. I will upgrade to version 5.6.3 and see if this version works for me.

Sure, this is my info:
1. Operative system. You seem to be running both 2003 and 2008 so it is probably not the OS itself that is special. Which Service pack and OS are you running?

I'm running W2K3 R2SP2 English versions. Some servers SE and other EE, all of them standalone servers working in a domain. Must say that the failing servers are running AMD processors, but I have another AMD processor server that it's not failing.
2. Have you performed all updates in the OS?

Regularly, maybe not the lastest but try to keep them up to date.
3. Which Task types are you running? Execute? Kill? SQL? Please write a summary.

All tasks are executing .bat files (with credentials) that launches other process (ERP tasks and SQL Jobs)
4. Please turn on extended debugging in server settings and also turn on logging to event log. Next time it happens compare the latest events in the event log with the latest events in log_serverDATE.txt log. Do you see any more events in the event log?

Ok, I will do it. Right now, I don't see any event in any logs.
5. At the time it hangs: Are you running any Jobs at that time?

No, for example yesterday it failed before the first nightly task.
6. Which antivirus do you have installed?

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i, but services are disabled right now.
7. Anything special about other applications that are running on the server?

All of them are ERP servers, so main applications are the ERP and MS SQL 2000 and MS SQL 2008 databases (depending on server).
8. Anything else you can think of?

Not really, unless you need to know .Net Framework versions on each server.

9. Anything else happening in the event viewer at that "hang/freeze" time (at the time of last log event)?

Nothing recorded, nor in the application nor in the system event log.

If you need further info, let me know. I'm updating the server that failed yesterday right now.

Hi,

I'm trying to turn on "Log to event log" setting but everytime I check it is enabled, the tick is missing. Happens the same in versions 5.6.2 and 5.6.3.
Any idea why? I have even restarted the VC service, but still the same.

Thanks

Forget it. Although it appears disabled, really it's enabled. There are records in the event viewer.

Thanks

1. I assume it started hanging here: 11/08/2010 07:06:42. Could you check and send events that were added in event log after this (and before restart)?

2. could you tell us more about this Job '[IMPORTANT] - Supervision VisualCron - [IMPORTANT]' which was started just before it hang? What does it do etc?

3. Were your Client connected all the time? The last event was that it disconnected?

4. Do you always have the Client running against the server?

It launch a ant script that update a file texte (only writing a word)
This file is checked localy to check if it has been updated.
If not, a mail is sent

3. Were your Client connected all the time? The last event was that it disconnected?

the visualcronserver is installed on a 2003 server

four computers launch the visualcron client on four différents computers.

4. Do you always have the Client running against the server?

Hiacine,

thanks for the files. Unfortunately there were no logs after this.

1. I assume that your SuperVision Job was added after the problem came?

2. The problem might be related to the Clients connected and how they disconnect

The Client on IP 10.13.62.158. Did he logoff by himself? Did anything else force the logoff like computer restart?

I am attaching a new version which logs the logoff a little bit more. Please make sure that you have extended debugging on.
