I am a first time user (no previous version installed). Downloaded latest 5.5.9 from the download page. The Server service fails to start on Windows XP Service Pack 3 (up to date with all the pathes). I did a reboot after installation was finished. I read the other forum post to run the service as a local admin user instead of SYSTEM but the result is the same. I can see in the Service Manager that the service is not started. When I try to start it, it takes about 2 minutes trying to start it and then fails. Any suggestions?

This indicate that WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) is broke or access is changed in some way.

Please check this url for repairing:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm

Another thing you should check is which is the WMI root path. It can be seen in the WMI properties (Administrative tools)
