I just tried to download 8.2.1 from the VisualCron website. Clicking the download button for the standard installer launches the URL,
http://www.visualcron.com/download/VisualCron8.exe .
My company has McAfee Web Gateway on our proxy servers, and completely blocks the download to my laptop, stating that the URL is a malicious website. I've submitted a firewall exception request, but in the meanwhile, I tried remoting in to another computer with a different OS and a different proxy server and downloading from there. When I do this, clicking on the download button initially takes the browser to the same URL, but then it is redirected to a McAfee Web Gateway-generated URL as it downloads (so far, this is all normal behavior for the gateway). Oddly, though, the URL that the McAfee Web Gateway displays as the original URL for the file is
http://www.visualcron.com/files/VisualCron8.exe .
That download fails, too, because of a rule named, "Block Based on TIE Reputation" - it might be a configuration difference, though, because if I browse directly to
http://www.visualcron.com/files/VisualCron8.exe from my laptop, my proxy server downloads and scans it and makes it available to me with no problem.
So, two questions:
1. What's the deal with
http://www.visualcron.com/download/VisualCron8.exe vs
http://www.visualcron.com/files/VisualCron8.exe? Is this some redirect or loadbalancing thing? I'm assuming that the VC site is not, in fact, hacked...
2. If McAfee has
http://www.visualcron.com/download/VisualCron8.exe blacklisted, but not
http://www.visualcron.com/files/VisualCron8.exe (maybe because the former doesn't point to a downloadable file but to some sort of server process, whereas the latter in fact downloads a file by the name of VisualCron8.exe), someone at VisualCron might want to have a chat with McAfee and find out how to get off the blacklist.
Thanks,
Rebeccah
