I am attempting to use the custom command for FTP to enter the following commands:

LCD
CWD
site decryptfile
MGET

It is failing with this error:

"An error occurred while starting to receive replies from the command socket"

I see that the documentation indicates that it does not support custom commands that require a data connection; are any of these commands that are not supported? If so, any suggestions on how VC might be used to accomplish this?

Thank you.

I would break it down, adding one command at a time to see which one fails.

The command I am having trouble with is the "site decryptfile", which I need to be able to enter on the remote FTP server, before I download the files.

If you look at the output (make sure you have ftp logging on) - what is the actual error? And what does "SITE DECRYPTFILE" do?

Custom FTP Commands

I am trying to use custom commands to append to a file since the FTP upload does not have an append option (which would be a great new feature).

However, I can't find anyway to change my local directory when using the custom FTP commands. I can change the remote directory (CWD), that works fine, but not the local.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Mark

What error do you get? Why don't you use the existing commands (what do you really want to do)?

I am trying to do an FTP upload and if the file already exist, to append to the file. There is no Append option in the standard FTP upload. In using the custom commands I can't change to my local directory to specify where the file is located. I can't find a change directory command for my local path, just for the remote path (CWD). So, all I am trying to do is append to a file if the file exist while doing an FTP upload.

Right now I have VC run a dos batch I have written that does the APPEND when doing an FTP upload. It would be a lot easier if VC offered this option to APPEND to an existing file instead of overwriting the file or not overwriting the file.

ok, we will add Append mode as a request.
