Hello,

I'm having some trouble with an archive task. I'm trying to get the task to add files to an existing zip, overwriting the files if they alreasy exist in the archive.

current setup:
archive task
type: zip
append to archive

content setup - item settings:
overwrite if existing

what happens:
keeps the current zip file
new files are appended
existing files are appended not overwritten

I tried changing the task type from "append to archive" to "overwrite archive if existing", this prevents file duplication in the archive however any files previously in the archive but no longer present when thr task is run will be lost.

How can I append files to an existing archive and have the files overwritten if they already exist in the archive?

thanks,

Hi skepticbelief,

I do not know if there is an overwrite function in the zip task, but you might want to extract the zip first, copy files over those files with the file copy task, overwriting exsisting ones and than use the zip task again.

Erik

Hi Eric,

On the zip task, when you go to the "Archive - Compress" tab, then under "Content", when you add/edit an item there is the itmes setting tab. Here I tried configuring it to overwrite instead of append but that didn't seem to work. I wasn't sure if I need to change how the task is set up or if this is perhaps a bug.

Yes,
It looks like you are right and that this should work. If it isn't working it could be a bug. I did not test this though.

Erik

Thanks Eric.

How can we get this on the list of bugs to be fixed? I can put some work arounds in place for now but it would be really nice to use this option natively.

Thanks,

We are using VisualCron version 7.7.8.
I am getting the same problem that skepticbelief reported 3 1/2 years ago.

Although I have the Archive Item set to "Overwrite if existing", it is not. It is adding another copy of the file to the zip folder.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back. We have marked this as a bug and it is in the process of being fixed. However, please note that a workaround is to use 'Overwrite if existing' option in the Archive Compress-> Archive Settings tab of the Archive Task as well. This selection seems to overwrite the item option.

Thank you for looking at it.
I can't use "Overwrite if existing" in the Archive Settings of the task. I need to append to the .zip file each time the job runs. If I set the Archive Settings to overwrite, it generates a new .zip file with only the new content file(s) and the previous contents in the .zip are forever lost.

In the mean time, I will leave the Archive Item setting to overwrite, even though it will not overwrite an existing file in the zip but instead stores another copy of the file in the zip.

I will look forward to this bug fix. Thank you.
