I have an FTP server to which I need to connect. I have been told to use FTP Implicit TLS/SSL over port 990. When I setup such a connection in WinSCP with the given username and password it connects no problem.

VisualCron does not have an "Implicit TLS/SSL" FTP method but rather splits it into two separate connection types "TLS Implicit" and "SSL Implicit".

When I try to setup using "SSL Implicit" and use Connection Explorer to test, I get the error:
- Server cannot perform SSL/TLS negotiation

When I change to using "TLS Implicit" and use Connection Explorer again, I appear to obtain a connection but when the LIST command is sent I get the following error:
- FTP/S reply received: 534 Protection level negotiation failed.

When I look back at the full log, everything looks good until the PROT C command is sent. That is the first time I receive the "534 Policy Requires SSL" error back.
Here is the portion of the log after the connection:
FTP/S command sent: PBSZ 0
FTP/S reply received: 200 PBSZ command successful.
FTP/S command sent: PROT C
FTP/S reply received: 534 Policy requires SSL.

Please advise

Hi Brian,

Did you try the FTP connection wizard?
This will test every possible connection there is in VisualCron.
When the right one is found, you can make a connection of it.

Erik
Uses Visualcron since 2006.

Interesting... I used the brute force test and had mixed results. I did eventually get a combination that worked. First I set it to I did not know the port and it was a secure connection. It ran through all scenarios and never got a successful connection.

I then changed to not know port and not know if secure. It started getting successful connections. The connection that finally worked for me was using TLS Implicit over port 990 with secure data AND command channels. Apparently this is not a setting I can actually make through the UI when creating the connection myself. I was able to select that connection in the brute force wizard and make the connection.

Was there ever a permanent resolution for this issue? I am experiencing something very similar.

I can connect from the VisualCron server to an FTPS site using WinSCP with TLS/SSL Implicit on port 990, but VisualCron gives me the following error when running the task:

'Server cannot perform SSL/TLS negotiation'

If I try the connection from the VisualCron Connection Explorer, I get the same error on the 1st attempt, and any attempts after, I get

'Wrong socket state 4 in SetAddress (error code is 96258)'

If I reset the Explorer, I go back to the 1st error, so maybe the session is just not closing properly when it generates the 2nd error.

I tried using the Brute Force test, letting VisualCron choose the port and SSL/TLS settings. However, unlike Brian's experience, mine never found a combination of settings that worked.

I am using 8.0.0, but have replicated the issue on a server that was using 8.0.1, then again after upgrading it to 8.1.0

Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks,

Please send any test connection details to support@visualcron.com so we can reproduce this.
