Hello Everyone,

I am running VisualCron 7.1.8. on windows server 2008. I am attempting to setup a connection to a VMware host I get an error stating that 'Connection protocol type not supported for testing'.

I have posted a pic. I have tried several combinations on the Name/Address both IP and/or host name of the server but no luck. I also noticed that for whatever reason the wizard automatically assigns port 21 with no way of changing it. I have supplied the correct authentication on the authentication tab so it should work. I hope I have covered all obvious answers.

Anyone have any ideas?

You can ignore that it says port 21. It is not used. Just a display error.

About the error. I have never seen it before but it sounds like you are using an old version of VMWare or Powershell.

I have tried on ESXi41, ESXi55 and ESX55 and same result.

Might be an older version of Powershell. Try upgrading.

I have just installed the latest version of poweshell 3.0 and still the same error.

PS.....also in looking at the task list, is there a way to put a VM host into maintenance mode and shut it down using VisualCron?

No, not that I know of. What would maintenance mode be exactly and how do you do that in other ways?

The problem might be that you have not installed or not installed the right VIX client on the VC server?

you enter a host into maintenance mode from the VMWARE vsphere client if you need to do any kind of updates to the Host server. When VMware hosts are in maintenance mode they cannot participate in any of the load balancing/VMotion features.
