Hello,

I just tried to upgrade VC to 7.1.4 and at the end I received the following error message:
"Service 'VisualCron' (VisualCron) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services."

I ran the upgrade with admin elevated rights, and my account is both a local machine and domain administrator. 😕

The installer seems to have successfully removed the old version of the server/service, because now the client has no server to connect to and none of my jobs are running. 💤

Help!

I would reboot the computer and try to install again. Seems like there is a pending change. Like a services window was open or similar.

Yes, thank you. I arrived at the same conclusion myself about the same time that you posted.

The problem was that there was a service stub left behind for the VisualCron service (visbile in Service.msc) that was "marked for deletion." It could not be started or manipulated in any way, so I imagine that the VC installer was trying to add a service and colliding with this one.

Rebooting cleared this out the rest of the way (though we generally prefer not to trigger extra reboots on production servers, I was out of options), and a subsequent install succeeded.

Thanks.
