It seems that the Visual Cron Internal Task> Trigger Expired (Inactivated) does not work for File or FTP Triggers that are Inactivated...working fine for SQL triggers...i am on Version 7.0.5.

How are the FTP Triggers (what is the reason) deactivated for you?

Just doing some testing with the new Job/task Control..Trigger - Activate Trigger Action. Basically deactivating the File/FTP/Visual Cron trigger type which in turn kicks off the Visual Cron Internal > Trigger Deactivated trigger to send an email and then run multiple tasks, that use event triggers, to reactivate the trigger that was deactivated. This scenario works perfect for SQL triggers but not for any else that i use...FTP/File/Visual Cron.

I could not reproduce this with latest:

I will make a video later if it does not work for you - just to confirm that we are talking about the same thing.

I am on the latest 7.0.5 and still can not get the task to kick off when deactivating any trigger but a SQL trigger, so the qustion has to be asked, why does it work for the SQL trigger and not any of the others? I am testing excatly the same by just Unchecking the Activate box for the Trigger.

I have tried creating the Visual Cron Trigger with a Remote Connection, but i am getting the attached error when it tries to fire. I have attached screen shots of the error and the set ups...i guess i do not know what credentials to use.

Remote VisualCron Connection must match a local VisualCron user. But in your case it seems like port 16444 is not open between these two severs. You can test this with telnet as well.

Post 16444 is open as that is the connection from my client to server:
my User name = klewis
Address [AD] klewis@HQDATA01:16444
Port 16444
This is the setting under my manage servers

Anyway, after some digging in the Support, i am experiencing this exact scenario...but he explained better:

Hi Henrik

I was trying the 'Trigger Expired' Visual Cron trigger and I can't seem to force it to Fire.

I have set a very simple job with a VC Trigger which monitors the Local Server for a 'Trigger expired' event (selected in the parameters). The job should then send an email via the email task to inform me that a trigger is inactivated.

I then try inactivating a 'File Trigger' in another job which I would expect to trigger the email job, but nothing happens.

IF I select a different VC Event Trigger, i.e. 'Job Updated', and then change another Job on the local server, then the VC Event trigger does fire. It just doesn't seem to recognise the Trigger Expired event.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Cheers

Andy

This was your response...which i understand:

Currently we have removed Trigger deactivated calls if a Job is updated. It is quite complex because every time a Job is updated the trigger is first deactivated and then activated - even though the trigger status is not changed yet. The idea is that these kind of changes should not trigger the event - but only when it is deactivated other way. We will go through, test and decide what to do and how it should work when we implement the Trigger->Activate and Trigger->Deactivate in the "Job/Task Control Task". This will be pretty soon, probably next week or the week after that.

Just to further update, and now makes sense, is that the SQL trigger still sends an email when i go to the job and save without Inactivating. Basically, it looks now like you changed the functionality on all the triggers except the SQl which is still performing the way all of them used to.

We will look at that.

But I am talking Server to Server. Please test telnet to confirm.

I think i misunderstood the Visual Cron Connection type...i don't have a server to server connection...I just have one server and client, so it would always be local, I am assuming..thanks for all your help and sorry for confusion. As i get more into the total functionality of VCron i am starting to get ideas and do some testing and don't always understand each function.

I tried deactivating the SQL Trigger and it was deactivated accordingly - do you still have this problem?

All is working fine according to how the deactivation of triggers was explained. The SQL Trigger email is just an informational response now as that is the only one that sends an email if the trigger or job is just saved or looked at...all the other triggers do not send that email anymore when saved.
