I'm trying to install the latest version (currently v7.0.1) but the install fails because I don't have .Net 3.5 on the server. Why is .Net 3.5 still required now that it should use .Net 4.0?

Not sure. Could you attach a screenshot of the error?

I'll see what I can do... the Server's admin installed .Net 3.5 in the mean time so I may not get the error any more. In theory any windows machine (Server 2012 in my case) without .Net 3.5 installed should experience the same installation error I'm getting

Might have to do with some aspect of the SQL Server support. If I remember correctly, there's something...SQL Management Objects or CLR data types, perhaps?...that still depends on .Net 2.0 up through the versions SQL 2008 at least, and 3.5 "provides" 2.0, but 4.0 doesn't.

Yes, obviously I didn't want to install .Net 3.5 if it wasn't necessary, but no big deal.

the installation of 7.0.2 installs succesfully, but when opening VC the window hangs at 79%. .Net 4 is installed on the server. Any ideas?
