Oracle Direct connection has been working since 8.5 for me I migrated to 9.0 and I had to make one change to my direct connection settings. When I upgraded to 9.1 Direct connect worked still. I just upgraded to 9.1.5 and the Direct connect through ORA12514 error at me when trying to do a test connection.
Attached image of configuration that was pulled in from my previous versions.

I tried dropping the connection and creating it from scratch but it did not work.
I have 2 databases that are both the same server versions below (1 Test and 1 Production). The Test Connection seems to be working fine (image attached 4259). The Production connection (image attached 4258) is not working even after recreating it from scratch on new server clean install of 9.1.5.

I tried cloning the Test connection and then changing the DB server parameters to point to Prod and it still fails

Oracle version on server: Oracle Database 12c Enterprise Edition Release 12.1.0.2.0 - 64bit Production

As a follow-up..
Here is the connection from the ver 9.1.0 for the same Oracle database. This connection works. (image attached) .
I also tried Beta version 9.2 for this issue

We have not received any other indication from other customer. But what does this error mean to you?

The error from Stack overflow thread would indicate the Listener on the database is not working. That is not the case here as I have other VisualCron servers using the older version pointed to the same database using the no client connection and it is working fine. When I loaded 9.1.5 it stopped working. When I rolled back to 9.1.0 it started working again. could it have something to do with the Oracle license fix you made as a part of 9.1.5 for some reason? It is odd also that I have other databases same Oracle version that are connecting fine on 9.1.5

So, "only" thing we have done between the versions (which caused license issue) is that we upgraded the Oracle components. We will check with the component provider if they recognize the error after upgrade. So far we need more feedback from other Oracle users and we have not yet received any. It is like a parameter might be missing.

I see now that you have altered the default connection string. I would try recreating a new one because some parts are not existing in default which may cause the error. Please try to recreate - do not add any parameters.

Is there any sort of logging records I can provide to you from my systems. I turned on enhanced debug logging but for that connection it only shows the connection string

"I see now that you have altered the default connection string. I would try recreating a new one because some parts are not existing in default which may cause the error. Please try to recreate - do not add any parameters."

I have recreated the link fresh multiple times using the link wizard and the direct connect method.
I was not altering the connection string or adding parameters in anyway from the wizard just updating the parameter values to match my DB.

One other observation here.. The version on the server is version 9.1 and that is where the connection was made. If I use client 9.1.5 on my PC the connection connects and verifies fine. If I create a new connection on the client of 9.1.5 on my PC against a 9.1 server it connects fine (see attached image of 9.1 server and 9.1.5 client). If I connect to the server directly that is running the server version 9.1.5 of VisualCron the connection fails the test connection. with no difference in the configuration process.

Please remove either SID or Service Name and try again. You must not use both.

Henrik,

Perfect! The connection now works after removing ServiceName and leaving SID.

It is worth noting though that both of these parameters were automatically added via the Wizard. In addition both parameters are in my connection string on version 9.1 and it seems to work.

I appreciate the support and love the product!
