Hi,
Today I was using the Wake up on LAN (WOL) task and I could not use the task, why?
I believe the WOL is broadcasted over a network using a specific UDP port. Over here we use port 7 for this. I'm not sure with port VC is using, but for me to use this task, the port should be configurable. My workstation is not starting.
Same for the broadcast address for the WOL. I think this is called 'Subnet directed broadcasts' (SDB). Using this technique you can segment the WOL's. Would be nice to have this option to set up the WOL.
When I searched for the MAC address I received a N/A when I used the IP range scan or by using the workstation name. No MAC address retrieved here. Using the GETMAC command I receive a MAC address, so why is VC not showing them?
What about sending a WOL for all clients on a network, or for a specific IP range? The latter is what we do at the moment with an external tool.
An other approach of retrieving the MAC address (and IP number) is querying the DHCP server (or more than one). These servers holds the name, the MAC address and the latest given IP number. You can use this method to wake up the workstation and than ping it to check if the WOL was a success.
So what do you think about this?Regards
Erik
So for now, I can't use the WOL task. Having the parameters to change the above
